Cue Pro 26 - Knowledge Base

Introduction

Cue Pro is a comprehensive ADR cueing, localization, and recording application designed for Pro Tools®-based post-production workflows. Building on the foundations of both ADR Master 3 and Cue Pro, Cue Pro 26 unifies these product lines into a single, flexible solution that adapts to different working environments and production requirements.

Cue Pro offers two distinct operational modes. Media Mode provides a standalone workflow where Cue Pro manages its own video engine and project files, connecting to Pro Tools® via Satellite Link or MTC - ideal for facilities that prefer dedicated media handling or need to work independently of Pro Tools®. Pro Tools Integrated Mode draws overlays directly onto the Pro Tools® video window with cue data stored live in the Cue Pro Connect plug-in - the simplest way to get started for studios already working within Pro Tools®. For detailed information on selecting and switching between modes, see the Operational Modes chapter.

Cue Pro is a single global application, with the installed license determining which product tier features are available. The two product tiers are: Cue Pro Edit for dialogue editors, ADR supervisors, and localization specialists focused on cueing, adaptation, and session preparation, and Cue Pro Studio for recording facilities requiring full ADR recording control with Pro Tools®.

Overview

Cue Pro Edit

Built on the robust, industry-proven video engine from Video Sync 6, Cue Pro Edit provides a complete modern toolkit for dialogue editors, ADR supervisors, and localization specialists working in Pro Tools®-based post-production. From initial cueing through adaptation and session delivery, every stage of ADR preparation is handled within a single application.

ADR cues can be created, trimmed, split, or merged directly within Cue Pro, with Rich Text formatting, Reason codes from a comprehensive built-in library (with full custom reason support), and dedicated fields for TBW (To Be Written) lines and B&E (Breaths and Efforts). Edit Mode options provide complete control over selection behaviour - Timeline Range Mode for bulk operations and multi-track editing, or Target Event Mode for fine-tuning individual cues with discontiguous selections.

Anchor support transforms how complex lines are cued. Rather than creating separate cues for each break in timing and applying the same cue number to fire secondary streamers, anchors enable dialogue editors to build cues that reflect what voice talent can realistically achieve in a single pass - with secondary streamers firing at each anchor point. This vastly speeds up cueing time, presents lines more naturally to talent, provides more accurate recording time estimations, and improves session flow. Anchors snap automatically to word boundaries for quick placement, or can be positioned at character level for finer control.

The overlay system renders cue data live on screen as it is created or modified - without slow, multi-step exports through other applications. Both Line Based and Rhythmo Bande overlay modes are supported. Rhythmo Bande delivers smooth, high-frame-rate scrolling text with precise word-to-picture alignment, making it the standard for dubbing workflows where lip-sync accuracy is critical. Anchors in Rhythmo Bande mode link characters in the text to specific video positions, and adjusting their timing is as simple as scrubbing the audio while dragging. Beyond ADR Cues, the overlay system also supports Timecode, Marker, Streamer, and Flutter overlays. User presets allow overlay configurations to be saved and recalled instantly.

Audio Transcription creates ADR Cues in bulk directly from sync sound or dialogue stems - select a range in the timeline and Cue Pro generates all the cues automatically, with text already filled in. The same transcription engine also populates the text field when creating individual cues. Transcription works either by capturing audio from Pro Tools® or by running local speech-to-text on any audio file. Built-in Translation allows cue text to be translated between languages without sending any data to external services, with an Alt Text workflow for managing translated and original text side by side. Both Transcription and Translation are powered by language models that can be downloaded and installed with a single click from within the application - free of charge, with no manual file management required.

Advanced batch import handles everything from PDF shooting scripts and dialogue lists to Excel, CSV, and TTAL files. For workflows requiring Pro Tools® clip groups, tracks can be selected in the active session and imported in a single operation. TTAL import and export enables seamless integration with Netflix and other localization workflows - supplied TTAL files open directly in Cue Pro with cues and anchors already in place, ready for the adaptation process. Detection symbols from TTAL lip-motion data can be displayed per character on the timeline, providing a visual reference for timing accuracy during adaptation. After translation and timing refinement, updated TTAL files can be exported for delivery. The Timelines feature allows multiple language versions to be maintained within a single project, streamlining multi-territory adaptation work. For other localization file formats, batch import ensures compatibility with various dubbing production pipelines.

The Scene Guide Track builds scene number and description data automatically from imported EDLs and PDF scripts. Cues inherit their scene numbers from the track based on their timeline position, so there is no need to enter scene information manually. The Shot Change Track provides automatic video cut detection, placing markers at every edit point in the picture for precise timeline navigation.

Cues can be exported as beautifully formatted PDF cue sheets, Word documents for round-trip editing, or Excel and CSV files for integration with production databases. Reconform support with Matchbox 2 keeps cueing perfectly in sync with the latest picture edit. Pro Tools® Memory Location Sync creates markers at each ADR Cue position with names and colours matching the cue text and Character Track colours, providing a quick visual reference for navigating cues directly within Pro Tools®.

Seamless integration with Cue Pro-equipped recording studios via Cue Pro Connect means a Pro Tools® session can be supplied ready to record, and the recordist can send back as-recorded cue information to the same session. CueLink provides live cue sheet viewing during the cueing process, accessible on any device or browser on the local network - and when working with studios equipped with Cue Pro Studio, CueLink enables live monitoring, editing, and updating of cues during recording sessions with changes instantly reflected in the overlays.

Transcription Matching enables post-recording verification by comparing cue text against Pro Tools® transcription data, with confidence scoring to quickly identify cues that may need attention.

Whatever your workflow looks like, Cue Pro Edit fits into it. Whether you're working in a TTAL localization pipeline, adapting scripts in plain Word documents with separate TBW sheet supply and return, or building cue sheets from scratch against sync sound - it handles it all. Your deliveries to recording studios are massively streamlined through Cue Pro Connect. Beautifully formatted PDF cue sheets can still be generated directly from your project, but with CueLink providing live cue access on any device, you can use it to complement printed sheets, reduce the number of copies needed for different attendees, or eliminate paper cue sheets from your sessions entirely. For adaptation specialists, the TTAL workflow chain is seamless from ingest to delivery, with detection symbols and anchors carried through every stage. Cue Pro Edit is the most complete ADR preparation tool available - built for the way dialogue editors, ADR supervisors, and localization specialists actually work.

Cue Pro Studio

Incorporating all the features of Cue Pro Edit, Cue Pro Studio adds a comprehensive ADR recording control system - turning Cue Pro into a full recording command centre for Pro Tools®-based studios.

Whatever format cue data arrives in, Cue Pro Studio can handle it. Cue Pro Connect sessions can be opened and recorded from immediately, while cue data from other platforms can be batch imported from almost any file format - ensuring compatibility with editorial pipelines and legacy systems worldwide. In Pro Tools Integrated Mode, both video and cue data live directly within the Pro Tools® session, so opening the session means you're ready to record with minimal to zero prep time. Media Mode also opens Cue Pro Connect sessions directly - cue data can be read, recorded against, and saved back - while providing advanced control over video and audio media including stems and multiple video sources, giving studios with complex facility setups the flexibility they need.

The recording workflow is built around three distinct modes - Rehearse, Record, and Review - each clearly indicated on screen so everyone in the room knows exactly what state the session is in. Event Record Mode options give the engineer precise control over how cues are captured: Single for one cue at a time, Batch for continuous recording through multiple cues, and Single with open end for cues where the talent needs to record past the Out Point. Individual cues can also be marked as open-ended regardless of the global mode, giving engineers per-cue flexibility without changing the session-wide setting.

DAW Control provides a direct communication link between Cue Pro and Pro Tools®. Pro Tools® track naming ensures recorded files are named consistently according to cue information, and Pre-Roll and Post-Roll settings are managed from Cue Pro and mirrored to Pro Tools® in real time. The track matrix is where this all comes together - it manages track mute, input, record, and stop states across multiple Pro Tools® tracks automatically for each recording state, and is fully configurable to taste. This takes a massive operational load off the engineer's mind: instead of manually handling track arming, muting, and naming for every pass, you can focus entirely on the talent and the performance. The result is faster sessions, better flow, and recordings that don't suffer from the distractions of manual DAW management. Intelligent take number counting tracks passes automatically, and the ability to mark selects and alts means you always know which takes are keepers. Pro Tools® Memory Location Sync carries over from the editing stage, giving the engineer a colour-coded map of every cue directly in the Pro Tools® timeline for quick navigation during recording.

In Media Mode, multiple video outputs are available, including dual video hardware outputs, internal display, and full-screen mode. Each display can have fully independent overlay settings tailored to its purpose - talent monitors can show large, clear text while engineering displays focus on technical information. Separate sync adjustments per monitor ensure everyone in the studio can gauge sync perfectly for their specific viewing position and display type.

Both Line Based and Rhythmo Bande overlay modes can be switched at any time to suit the production or talent preference. Every aspect of the overlay display is fully customisable - font, colour, size, position, streamer appearance, and timing parameters can all be adjusted to taste. User presets make it easy for multiple recording engineers in the same studio, or clients with different overlay preferences, to switch between their preferred configurations instantly.

CueLink in Cue Pro Studio transforms remote devices into powerful session tools. Directors, dialogue supervisors, and voice talent each connect through a standard web browser on any device - no additional software required. In Rhythmo Bande mode, the continuously scrolling event list keeps pace with the session in real time, with the active cue always prominently displayed. Multi-user access control lets you decide exactly who has editing privileges and who has view-only access, with filter preferences that follow the current session filters.

Editors connected via CueLink can modify cue text, notes, and engineering notes live during recording - with changes instantly reflected on the ADR Cue video overlays in Cue Pro. In and Out timecodes can be adjusted directly from the browser, and new ADR Cues can be created on the fly without interrupting the session. A floating transport bar keeps editors informed of Cue Pro's current playhead position and recording state in real time. Voice talent can use the Scribble feature with Apple Pencil or a compatible stylus to annotate cue text with their own performance markings - inflection cues, emphasis marks, breathing points - the same way they would annotate a paper script.

CueLink API access enables integration with external studio systems such as booking and billing platforms, allowing facilities to monitor recording progress and gather event information programmatically in real time.

Cue Pro Studio is built around one principle: minimal setup, maximum focus. Open a session and you're recording - no prep time, no configuration rituals, no paper cue sheets to print and distribute. The track matrix handles the mental load of managing Pro Tools® tracks for every pass type, take numbering looks after itself, and CueLink keeps everyone in the room informed without a single sheet of paper. The engineer's attention stays where it belongs: on the talent and the performance. The result is quicker, smoother sessions with more focus on what matters most - good recordings and happy clients who stay engaged with the work, not the workflow.
